Karl Weiss
Board Chairman
Karl Weiss is a Founding Director of the Massachusetts Technology Park Corporation (MTPC). He served as Chairman of the Corporation's Board from 1992 to 1995, as Vice Chairman from 1987 to 1992 and 1995 to 2000, and was reelected Chairman of the Board in 2000.
Currently Professor Emeritus, Dr. Weiss has been associated with Northeastern University for almost forty years as a faculty member and in various administrative capacities. He has served as Chairman of the Chemistry Department, Vice Provost, Vice President for Research, Vice President for Academic Development and Vice President for Cooperative Education. Presently, he is also Chairman of the Board of Councilors of the Integrated Media Systems Center (a NSF Engineering Research Center) at the University of Southern California, and Chairman of the Water Resources Advisory Board of the Town of Eastham, Massachusetts.
Prior to his academic career, Karl Weiss had industrial experience with Color Research Corporation in New York City. He has also been active as a consultant for ARPA and the Eastman Kodak Research Laboratories, and as a member of various committees of the American Chemical Society, the National Science Foundation and the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars.
In scientific research, Karl Weiss' efforts were devoted to photochemistry, photophysics and quantum chemistry. His accomplishments include pioneering work on the use of lasers in photochemistry and basic studies of the photochemical aspects of vision. He is the author of numerous articles dealing with these and related topics. Born in Hamburg, Germany, he holds a B.S. degree from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from New York University. The recipient of Fulbright and NSF Senior Postdoctoral Fellowships, he was awarded an honorary D.Sc. degree by Northeastern University in 1993.
